“I want [a lipstick] that is neutral but has something mysterious about it. I’m going to wear this Dior Rouge Dior lipstick in shade 434; the mystery is in the finish. It is not matte, but it is highly pigmented and has a nice sheen. It almost gives this voluptuous look to the lips. It is the perfect “your lips, but better”. It is really comfortable and does not dry out at all.
“This [Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting] powder maintains that natural radiance, because you don’t want your skin to look dry. Dip a powder brush directly into the powder and press and roll it into the skin. The skin still looks like skin. [For finish] I’m going to take a splash of [Kilian Kissing Eau de Parfum. It’s a] warm floral [with] notes of lily of the valley, hot milk and caramel sugar. “
If you are like most people who struggle with dry skin, you have a love-hate relationship with your complexion. When it’s hot and humid and everyone else seems to have bathed their t-zones in oil, you can’t help but feel a bit proud of your perfectly even complexion. However, when the air is dry and the only breeze is warm, your face can feel taught and stretched, and your complexion can look completely dull. The good news is, with the right skincare products and tips, you can maintain a radiant complexion (and your smug demeanor!) All year long.
DRY SKIN CARE TIP # 1: WASH WITH LUKWARM WATER
Everyone loves a good hot shower to eliminate the stressors of the day, but while your muscles love the relief, your skin does not. Hot water strips the skin of essential oils, which is not ideal for any skin type. However, you and your other dry-skinned relatives need all the natural moisture you can get. So, relax with a warm shower and then if your muscles still need a little love, throw a heat pack on your shoulders as you watch Tiger King for the third time.
DRY SKIN CARE TIP # 2: BE GENTLE (VERY GENTLE) WHEN CLEANING
Seriously, no fancy micro-pearl facial washes and wipes for you. Depending on how dry your skin is, you may want to consider using a leave-in cleansing option. These options remove dirt, oil, and makeup from the skin without extracting essential oils from within the skin. If you like the water and wipe approach, use a very mild cleanser (without the microbeads!), Warm water, and a gentle hand.
DRY SKIN CARE TIP # 3: EXFOLIATE
People with dry skin are more likely to have rough patches and scaling than their normal to oily skin counterparts. Those rough areas can make you look years older than you really are, so once a week, use a gentle exfoliator to remove dead skin cells and reveal the healthy, youthful skin underneath.
DRY SKIN CARE TIP # 4: MOISTURIZE WET SKIN
Immediately after cleaning or moisturizing, apply a mild finishing moisturizer to lock in all the moisture in the water. Before applying, let your skin air dry until it is damp. Do not towel dry, as doing so will reduce the effectiveness of the moisturizer.
Although most people should be careful to hydrate day and night, it is especially important that you do so. Because your skin is “dry” so to speak, it will have absorbed most of the moisturizer that you put on in the morning after dark. Gently rinse your face before going to bed and then apply a night cream.
DRY SKIN CARE TIP # 5: TAKE SUN PROTECTION SERIOUSLY
This is a must no matter what skin type you have, but if you are constantly struggling with rough areas and irritated skin, you may want to take Grandma’s advice as soon as possible. Exposure to the sun not only causes cell damage, it also filters moisture directly from the skin. Wear sunscreen, buy a large hat, and seek shade whenever possible.
DRY SKIN CARE TIP # 6: MASK
Masks are relaxing, it’s true, but stress relief isn’t the only benefit you’ll get from a dermatologist-recommended mask. Even the gentlest skincare creams and moisturizers can clog your pores and leave your skin looking taut and dull over time. Use a mask specially formulated for dry skin to remove impurities from your skin and leave it looking and feeling smooth, healthy and fresh.
DRY SKIN CARE TIP # 7: TAKE CARE OF YOUR LIPS
If your complexion is dry, so are your lips. Complement your freshly glowing skin with a full, healthy and downright delicious pout with a specially formulated lip moisturizer.
Dry skin can be irritating, but it doesn’t have to be unmanageable. With the seven tips above, you can beat dryness and achieve a smooth, healthy, and glowing complexion all year long.
